Song of the Day: In Buddy's Eyes

In Buddy's Eyes is, of course, from Sondheim's legendary musical Follies.  It's a beautiful piece and quite possibly my favorite song out of all of Sondheim's work.   The song is essentially one giant lie, but one of the most heartbreakingly gorgeous lies ever written.  But it is also a song about hope and the feelings that many of us want to cherish when we all eventually get older.  I'm posting two versions on here.  The first is Barbara Cook's version, which she sung during the 1985 concert staging of Follies.  It is considered by many to be the definitive version of the song (me included).  The second is by Marin Mazzie at the Hollywood Bowl for Sondheim's 75th birthday.  She's a little young for the song, but she bring real emotion to it.  In a few more years it could be absolutely perfect for  her.  enjoy,
